The McGlynn Center is a year-round program dedicated to providing educational, recreational, and social outreach services to children and teens. The Center offers a safe environment where students are challenged academically and socially, guiding them toward a productive future. Beyond education, the McGlynn Center addresses food insecurity by providing monthly food bags filled with staple items to all registered families. Every child receives a winter coat to ensure they stay warm during their walk to school, as well as bookbags and school supplies before the school year begins. Around the holidays, children also receive sneakers to replace worn-out shoes. These initiatives allow families to allocate their resources more effectively to meet other essential needs. Their program also emphasizes teaching respect, kindness, and civic leadership, instilling in children a sense of responsibility within their community.
Volunteers in Medicine is a community-based nonprofit organization who offers a wide range of services at no cost, including primary medical care, dental services, diagnostic testing, and counseling. These services are offered to the working, uninsured, and underinsured populations in NEPA. The clinic’s comprehensive care addresses the needs of residents, some of whom are non-English speaking, by providing vital interpretation services. The IMPACT Grant funds will be used to support this interpretation program, which is essential for effective communication and treatment planning.
The Wyoming Valley Art League is a nonprofit arts organization that has been fostering artistic talent and promoting fellowship among artists in the Greater Wyoming Valley for 70 years. Its mission is to sponsor programs featuring both local and out-of-town artists while encouraging art education and interest in the community. The organization plans to revive “Sunday at the Circle,” a beloved monthly live performance series that was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This event aims to celebrate the region’s diverse cultural heritage through various art forms, including music, theater, poetry, storytelling, and visual arts. The IMPACT Grant funds will be used to support the event by covering costs for musicians, performers, lecturers, and other artists, as well as promotional materials and refreshments. The event will create an inclusive environment that educates and promotes pride in the area’s diverse heritages, fostering deeper engagement and understanding among different communities.
